They`re simply getting better and better each year.
In another display of sheer determination and firepower, the city’s young athletes won a total of 32 golds, 27 silvers and 25 bronze medals in the recently concluded 12th Milo Little Olympics-Luzon Area held in Lingayen and Dagupan City.
The 84 medals collected in the two-day sporting event easily doubled last year’s output of 18 golds, 13 silvers and 11 bronze medals, according to Jose Elvis TC. Sison, the city sports coordinator.
He added that the 54 individual gold medals is the most for Alaminos Team in its four years of participation in this biggest annual sports spectacle in Luzon.
“This is definitely another banner year for the city’s athletes as far as the MILO Little Olympics is concerned,” he stressed.
For the second straight year, Telbang Elementary School (TES) placed 2nd among the Top Ten Schools-Elementary Division.
TES was accounted for 19 golds, 13 silvers and 6 bronze medals earning praises both from the sports organizers and the best schools in Regions 1, II, III and CAR.
Alaminos Central School also barged in the elite circle for the first time as it placed 9th over-all after collecting 6 individual golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronze medals.
Winning 7 silvers and 3 bronze medals in taekwondo, athletics and badminton, Alaminos City National High School likewise took the 10th spot in the secondary division.
Aside from team awards, four of our most promising athletes were named Most Outstanding Athletes, said Sison, who lead the city’s delegation during the awarding ceremony held at CSI Mall in Dagupan City last Sunday.
They were Eric Paul Sison (badminton-elementary), Kim Alexis Sotelo (lawn tennis secondary), Amiel Joseph Beltrano (lawn tennis-elementary) and Aries dela Pena (athletics-elementary).
This the second “best athlete plum” for Beltrano who won his second gold medal in lawn tennis this year.
“(For winning many gold this year), the city is about to send its biggest delegation in the first-ever National Milo Little Olympics national finals in Cebu City late next month,”
“This will be the true test for our athletes as we have heard that this competition could be as tough as the Palarong Pambasa wherein the best of the best in each super region and members of national team will vie for the coveted prize,” he added.
The Alaminos Team’s successful campaign is again made possible through the all-out support and assistance of Mayor Hernani A. Braganza and the city council headed by Vice Mayor Teofilo G. Humilde, Jr.
Braganza, the city’s biggest sports fan and chief backer of the city athletes, launched a comprehensive and sustainable youth and sports development program in 2005 in a bid to produce young athletes that would present the city or the country in the international sports scene.
Part of the said program is the continuous training of the city’s athletes and participation in various tournaments. It also provided cash incentives to the winning athletes including their coaches and trainors.
Thus, year after year, the city’s young athletes continue to hone their skills, play better, and reap many awards.
And this year’s edition of Milo Little Olympics is a concrete manifestation of all of their struggles for sports supremacy.
